You’re ready to turn your love of dogs into a career that changes lives.

Maybe you're…

  • A dog owner who’s seen firsthand what hydrotherapy or massage did for your own dog and thought: “I want to be able to do this for others.”

  • Done wasting years in a career that pays well but leaves you hollow and are ready to spend your days doing something that actually matters to you.

  • A human healthcare practitioner and would like to add working with dogs to your skillset so you can offer therapies to the pets of your current clients.

  • Already in the industry — as a vet nurse, a trainer, a groomer — and you want to go deeper. To hold a qualification that gives you more scope, more credibility, and the ability to help dogs in a way you currently can't.

Whatever the specifics, you know that dogs deserve better care than many are currently getting, and that you could be part of providing it.

That was my starting point too…

I came to this work as a human physiotherapist.

When I moved out of home and I got my own dog, I assumed (naively, as it turned out) that the same quality of rehabilitation care I could offer my human patients would be available to my dog  too. What I discovered instead was a significant gap:

Dogs recovering from surgery, injury, and chronic conditions were going without the evidence-based rehabilitation that would have meaningfully changed their outcomes.

Owners weren't being given the information they needed to make informed decisions.

And in an industry that remains largely unregulated, animals were (and still are) being treated by people who aren't adequately qualified to do so safely.

That realisation became the foundation of everything I've built since.

I went on to complete my Master's in Animal Physiotherapy, open Australia's first dedicated canine physiotherapy and hydrotherapy clinic, design and build the country's first canine underwater treadmill, be awarded for my delivery of service to canine patients, publish research on canine rehabilitation, and author the hydrotherapy chapter in the Canine Physiotherapy textbook.

Over the past 24 years, I've been fortunate enough to treat hundreds of thousands of dogs (and it still fills up my heart every time I get to make a difference).

There's something so immensely satisfying about seeing the look on a client’s face when you help their dog walk again after they were told it couldn’t, or seeing a dog fully recover from an injury or surgery, or having their life extended as a result of this work. Helping both the clients and the dogs is priceless.

But one clinician can only reach so many dogs.

Since 2002, I have been educating vets and the wider community on the importance of rehabilitation and access to qualified therapists.

In 2017 I created The Academy to formalise and expand this work – training people who share this commitment, so more dogs, in more places, can access the standard of care they deserve.

"Michelle’s years of experience and knowledge that were passed onto us was invaluable. It wasn’t just theory from some textbook; it was years and years of trial and error and experience. That’s where the value was."

Kym - Dual Qualified Canine Hydro & Massage Therapist

Your pathway to a certification rigorous enough to earn the respect of vets and owners, practical enough to actually prepare you to treat dogs safely and effectively.

This is a self-paced program — but you are never studying alone. The certification is structured around a series of milestones that combine independent learning with real-time, hands-on support at every stage.

Step 1 — Build Your Foundation

(Modules 1–5, self-paced)

Complete your first five modules and assessments at your own pace. This phase provides the essential groundwork in canine anatomy and physiology, developing your understanding of structure and function while building a solid foundation for future practical training.

Step 2 — Live Anatomy Workshop with Your Dog

(2 hours, virtual, 3 live workshop dates available per year.)

Bring your dog and join a live, interactive virtual workshop focused on anatomy. This workshop is designed to integrate your theoretical knowledge in real time, on a real dog, with  personalised feedback.

Step 3 — Clinical Knowledge & Application

(Modules 6–10, self-paced)

This phase builds your clinical understanding, introducing key forelimb, hindlimb and neurological pathologies, alongside a structured approach to assessment, including surface anatomy and palpation.

By the end of this section, you’ll be able to approach a canine patient with a clear, structured way of observing, assessing, and forming appropriate, informed treatment responses.

Step 4 — Live Assessment Workshop with Your Dog

(2 hours, virtual, 3 live workshop dates available per year.)

This second live, interactive virtual workshop is focused on canine assessment. During this session, you'll apply your clinical knowledge by working through real scenarios, alongside your instructor and peers.

Step 5 — Advanced Practice & Professional Development

(Modules 11-15, self-paced)

With a solid foundation in canine therapy, from here the course branches into your chosen specialisation in either Hydrotherapy or Massage practice.

You’ll develop specialised techniques, learn to work with specific pathologies, build effective treatment plans, and refine your professional skills, so you can confidently deliver treatments in a real-world clinical setting.

Step 6 — 2-Day In-Person Case Intensive Workshop, Melbourne

(3 workshop dates available per year. Travel and accommodation at your own cost.)

The pinnacle of your learning experience. This small-group, hands-on workshop is where you'll work through assessment of real cases and refine your treatment application under expert supervision, preparing you to confidently walk into a clinical setting and start treating from the moment you graduate.

Step 7 — Final Examinations & Graduation

Complete your final theory examination and a live, virtual practical exam with one of our team to earn your certification, and start supporting dogs to live longer, healthier lives. Once all academic, financial and administrative requirements are met, your certification is issued.

Throughout the entire course, you'll be supported by:

  • Monthly live Q&A sessions — tailored to where you are in the course, so you always have a space to ask questions, clarify concepts, and build confidence
  • A dedicated Student Support Team — course graduates who've walked this path themselves, available via email, five days a week
  • Private Facebook Group — a community of like-minded students to learn alongside and ask questions
  • Individual video assignment feedback — every video submission is reviewed and returned with personalised, customised feedback

“Coming from a professional corporate background, I understood the need to surround myself with like-minded people, increase my knowledge/training and develop a support network. The Hydrotherapy course delivered on all fronts.”

Marie – Canine Hydrotherapist

This course has really broadened my knowledge and I am truly appreciative of it!"
