You know dogs deserve better care than many are currently getting, and that you could be part of providing it.

… Maybe you've watched your own dog recover from something and thought, “I wish I knew how to do this for others” but had no idea where you’d even start.

… Maybe you're already working with dogs — and you want to provide deeper support to your existing clients.

… Or maybe you're a human massage therapist and want to transfer those skills to treating dogs.

Regardless of your starting point, our certifications equip you with the clinical reasoning and hands-on skills to become a powerful force for change in the lives of dogs and their humans.

"Michelle’s years of experience and knowledge that were passed on to us was invaluable. It wasn’t just theory from some textbook; it was years and years of trial and error and experience. That’s where the value was."

Kym - Dual Qualified Canine Hydro & Massage Therapist

Choose your certification

Certificate in Canine Remedial Massage

Massage works through deliberate manipulation and movement of soft tissue. It releases tension and restriction, helps manage chronic pain, improves range of motion and reduces anxiety.

Best for supporting: dogs with mobility issues, dogs compensating for pain elsewhere in the body, working dogs, canine athletes, anxious dogs and seniors.

It's likely the right path if you want to start treating dogs relatively quickly, would rather not take on the infrastructure of a facility, and are drawn to a broad range of dogs, from everyday pets to canine athletes.

Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to:

  • Start your own canine massage business or add massage to an existing pet facility
  • Be employed as a canine massage therapist in a vet clinic, canine rehabilitation centre, grooming facility, pet resort, or rescue organisation
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team

"I highly recommend this course. You are taught to think about each dog individually and what their specific needs are. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. You will learn the foundations of massage and massage techniques as well as how the different pathologies affect the dogs and how they move. You will have the skills to offer an effective treatment plan specific to each dog and also a plan that works for your own body and hands."

Kim L - Certified Canine Remedial Massage Therapist

Certificate in Canine Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy uses the physical properties of water and underwater treadmills to aid in the rehabilitation of dogs. The water reduces load on compromised joints, creates resistance that builds muscle without impact, and assists with limb motion and re-education.

Best for: Dogs recovering from musculoskeletal or neurological injury or surgery, dogs with osteoarthritis, seniors losing muscle, and any dog who needs to rebuild strength when land-based movement is too painful or risky.

This is likely the right path if you're drawn to being part of a rehabilitation team, implementing the rehab plan in the water and feeding observations back to the vet or physiotherapist overseeing the case.

Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to:

  • Start your own canine hydrotherapy facility or add hydrotherapy to an existing vet clinic, rehab centre, grooming salon or pet resort
  • Be employed as a canine hydrotherapist in a rehab facility, vet clinic, or specialist canine facility
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team

“Michelle Monk has a fabulous reputation as an Animal Physio, so for me this course was a no-brainer. Michelle's teaching style is very passionate, compassionate and precise and she always ensures that every student has a clear understanding of the foundations and practices with great practical knowledge. ”

Julie-Ann Holmes Certified Canine Hydrotherapist

Dual Certification — Massage & Hydrotherapy

Combining both modalities positions you competitively as a therapist who can rebuild strength and re-educate movement (hydro) as well as manage pain and relieving the compensation patterns that build when a dog has been favouring one part of the body to prevent re-injury (massage).

This is likely the right path if you're drawn to variety and having a multi-disciplinary approach in house, without needing to refer out.

Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to:

  • Start your own canine massage and/or hydrotherapy facility or add massage and/or hydrotherapy to an existing vet clinic, rehab centre, grooming salon or pet resort
  • Be employed as a canine massage or hydrotherapist in a rehab facility, vet clinic, or specialist canine facility
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team

“I never imagined I could gain so much knowledge, support and confidence from an online course… I now feel equipped, accredited, and proud of my training”

There are no fixed intakes. You start the moment you enrol, and have 18 months to complete.

By enrolling during this October promotion, by dedicating 5-7 hours a week for a single certification, you’ll be ready to attend our June 2027 Case Intensives, allowing you to graduate soon after.

We teach you how to think, not just what to do

Every CHWA certification is built around our Clinical Reasoning Spiral; the structured thinking that lets you gather information, recognise patterns, test your assumptions, and decide what the particular dog in front of you needs.

In practice this looks like:

An owner tells you their dog has become reluctant to jump into the car. Here's what goes through the mind of a therapist trained to clinically reason the CHWA way:

What's changed, and when? What did the vet find? Which structures could be involved? If the hindlimbs are the problem, what compensation would I expect to see in the front end of the dog, and is it there? Does what I'm feeling match what I expected, and if not, why not?

That thinking is why the anatomy matters. It's why the pathology matters. It's what the assessment framework is for. With those pieces in place, you can choose the right treatment approach, or recognise when the case needs to go back to the dog's vet or animal physiotherapist.

It's why our graduates are trusted by the vets they work alongside.

They understand the case, they work within their scope, and they know when to refer rather than treat.

Michelle Monk, BPhysio(Hons), MAnimPhys

I came to this work as a human physiotherapist.

When I moved out of home and got my own dog, I assumed the same quality of rehabilitation care I could offer my human patients would be available to my dog too. What I discovered instead was a significant gap.

Dogs recovering from surgery, injury and chronic conditions were going without the evidence-based rehabilitation that would have meaningfully changed their outcomes.

Owners weren't being given the information they needed to make informed decisions. And in an animal allied health industry that remains largely unregulated, animals were — and still are — being treated by people who aren't adequately qualified to do so safely.

That realisation became the foundation of everything I've built since.

I went on to complete a Master's Degree in Animal Physiotherapy, open Australia's first dedicated canine physiotherapy and hydrotherapy clinic, and design and build the country's first canine underwater treadmill. I've published research on canine rehabilitation, authored the hydrotherapy chapter in the Canine Physiotherapy textbook, and been awarded for my research and delivery of service to canine patients.

Over the past 24 years I've treated tens of thousands of dogs, and it still fills up my heart every time I get to make a difference. There's something so immensely satisfying about seeing the look on a client's face when you help their dog walk again after they were told it couldn't happen.

But one clinician can only reach so many dogs.

Since 2002 I've been educating vets and the wider community on the importance of rehabilitation and access to qualified therapists. In 2017 I created the Academy to formalise and expand that work, so more dogs in more places can access the standard of care they deserve.

We've now certified over 650 therapists in 17 countries, and I'd love for you to become one of them.

Same certification, different practices

Every graduate below completed the same curriculum. But where they started & what they built looks very different.

Minnesha Yasmine

Minnesha Yasmine

From human healthcare to canine therapy and her own business.

After her own dog needed rehabilitation for IVVD, she discovered firsthand the impact canine therapy could have.

That experience inspired her to take her background in nursing and kinesiology in a new direction — retraining in canine therapies and building a career centred around helping dogs.

Today, she runs her own business as a Canine Remedial Massage & Energetic Therapist, while also working part-time as a Hydrotherapist at Dogs In Motion.

Lea Gilinets

Lea Gilinets

From college professor to canine therapist and business owner.

Lea spent more than 12 years as a college professor and Human Resources Director before one dog changed the direction of her career.

After adopting a partially paralysed dog and experiencing firsthand the difference hydrotherapy could make, Lea discovered a new path — helping other dogs move better and live fuller lives.

Today, she’s turned that experience into a career of her own, opening K9 Mobility Center in Santa Clarita, USA.

Vivi

Vivi

From grooming dogs to helping them move and feel better.

Vivi and her cousin already had a successful grooming business with several salons in Singapore, caring for dogs every day. But they wanted to be able to offer those dogs even more.

They expanded their skills by becoming dual qualified in Canine Remedial Massage and Hydrotherapy, allowing them to take their existing business beyond grooming and provide hands-on therapeutic care too.

Now, they’re expanding their grooming business to include canine massage and hydrotherapy services in Singapore.

Ethan

Ethan

From a 13-year career in communications and cultural policy to building a business around helping dogs.

After losing his beloved dog Ealga — named Twinkle by her rescuers — Ethan decided it was time to make a meaningful career change and dedicate his work to dogs.

Canine Remedial Massage gave him a practical, hands-on way to do exactly that. He chose CHWA for its credibility, comprehensive curriculum, accessibility and ongoing support.

Today, Ethan uses his certification through his own business, Twinkle Touch Canine Remedial Massage and Homestays, continuing the mission that began with one very special dog.

Are our certifications right for you?

We’ll be honest, our certifications aren’t for everyone. There are courses out there promising you a certification in a weekend. We’re not that.

Because this work isn’t theoretical. You’re working with real dogs. Real bodies. Real conditions. And in that context, speed isn’t a benefit. It’s a risk.

A fast certification often means you’re left guessing. And guessing, with a live animal in front of you, isn’t something we’re willing to stand behind.

At the Canine Health & Wellbeing Academy, rigour is the point. But rigorous doesn't mean inaccessible.

We also start from the beginning and build gradually, so even someone with no background at all graduates at a standard of practice we'd be willing to employ in our own clinic — which is the bar we actually use.

So if you:

  • Have a genuine care for dogs and the commitment to do this work properly.
  • Want a qualification that vets and owners respect, and you're prepared to do the study that earns it
  • Can attend the case intensive in Melbourne.
  • Have regular access to a dog: your own, a friend's, or one through your work.
  • Want to work as part of a dog's care team, and are willing to work within your scope of practice, alongside their vet and physiotherapist or canine rehabilitation therapist..

We’d love to welcome you into the academy.

ENROL & GET STARTED

"I was worried about learning and remembering the science part of the study — which later disappeared once we started learning the more practical modules. It all came into place then. This is the most extensive and up-to-date content. It is well paced and a supportive learning environment."

Cassandre, Certified Canine Hydrotherapist

"This course was so valuable for bringing together the theory and practical — especially with such a variety of canine models. The course platform was easy to navigate, the support was exceptional, and the Q&A sessions were an amazing opportunity to learn directly from Michelle."

Angela P, Dual Qualified Canine Hydro & Massage Therapist
